Erdogan’s party to demand rerun of Istanbul election
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party will demand a new vote in Istanbul after local elections held nine days ago. The party says that irregularities in voting directly affected the outcome. “We will file our extraordinary appeal today,” vice chairman Ali Ihsan Yavuz said in Ankara. “We will say that there have been events that directly impacted the outcome of the elections and that we demand the renewal of the elections in Istanbul.” Doubt over local election results in Istanbul will remain if Turkey’s High Election Board rejects the appeal, according to Yavuz.
