Spain heads to the polls in hotly contested election race

Spanish voters go to the polls on Sunday, bringing to an end a divisive campaign that has left the electorate fractured. It’s all to play for when it comes to forming a government. The ruling Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) is expected to win the largest share of the vote, but will fall short of an overall majority. It’s also predicted that the populist right-wing Vox will enter parliament for the first time, with different pre-election surveys suggesting between four and 10 seats could be gained by the party in the 350-seat parliament, according to Reuters. Coalition discussions are expected to drag on for months, with a fourth poll in as many years also a possibility.
