The Venezuelan Supreme Tribunal of Justice has ordered the arrest of Leopoldo López, an opposition leader, who is considered to be the political “mentor” of the self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaido.
Lopez, who has been under house arrest since 2017, appeared beside Guaido earlier this week as the US-backed opposition sought to take control of Caracas by force. As the coup attempt failed, Lopez and his family sought refuge in the Chilean ambassador’s residence but later moved to the Spanish embassy.
