The Syrian security forces have foiled a car bombing in the Zahra residential district of Homs, a city in western Syria. The car was rigged with C-4 explosives, which can be easily modeled into any desired shape and feels and looks like clay, Syria’s state SANA news agency reported.
The Zahra district is home to mostly the Alawite minority, which represents about 12 percent of the country’s population. Syrian President Bashar Assad also hails from the minority.
The district was targeted by Sunni rebels in the past. The Syrian army liberated the last Islamic State stronghold in the province in summer 2017, reclaiming the city earlier in May.
