Palestinian President Abbas hopes to meet with Putin in June – official
President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas hopes to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, in Dushanbe on June 15, according to Palestine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Maliki.
“I expect that [it will happen] next month in Tajikistan,” he told TASS. “We are working to organize [the meeting] during the summit.”
The Kremlin has not yet officially announced that Putin is planning to meet with Abbas in Dushanbe.
The Palestinian minister said his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was held two weeks ago on the sidelines of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum. The situation in Palestine, the Israeli position on the so-called occupied territories, and Washington’s proposal on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement were discussed, according to the diplomat.
