Ukraine may hold a snap parliamentary election on July 21, an adviser to new President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday. The statement came after Zelensky held consultations with leading lawmakers.
First deputy of the parliament’s speaker, Irina Gerashchenko, also said that the election may be held on July 21 or July 28. The presidential decree to dissolve parliament is expected in coming days, she added.
During his speech at the inauguration ceremony on Monday, Zelensky said he would dissolve Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament). It was not clear when the decree would be issued.
