Chris Pratt is a talented actor who is considered to be one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. Yet there is a concerted effort to cancel him just because he’s a Christian and, so, a symbol of everything Social Justice Warriors hate.
What’s not to like about Chris Pratt? From his humble beginnings as a waiter who was so broke he had to eat the leftovers from his restaurant’s customers, to one of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood, this is a guy who has paid his dues and earned his success, while being as nice and charming as possible about it.
Pratt’s breakout role as Andy Dwyer in the TV show Parks and Recreation got him on people’s radar, and his role as Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy made him an A-list box office draw. But it has always been Pratt’s humor and humility that made him the darling of audiences everywhere. His charming social media posts have endeared him to people all over the world, whether he’s doing another episode of “What’s My Snack” or just clowning around with his famous co-stars, people can’t seem to get enough of this leading man.
Also on rt.com Marvel making Star-Lord bisexual is a vindictive dig at Chris Pratt’s Christianity from a dying comic book industryEven when his marriage to actress Anna Faris ended, an outpouring of support was directed his way. And when he then married Katherine Schwarzenegger – becoming a member of both the Schwarzenegger Hollywood dynasty and that of the Kennedy family – he assumed a level of ‘Hollywood Royalty’ that few actors ever achieve.
But, increasingly, there is a movement against Pratt. A growing movement to demonize and even cancel the man whom many consider to be “the nicest guy in Hollywood.” And it’s all based around the fact that Pratt is a devout Christian.
It all started with a speech at the MTV Movie Awards in 2018 where Pratt got on stage and shared his “9 Rules From Chris Pratt, Generation Award Winner.” It was a genuine (yet funny) acceptance speech where Pratt shared nine rules that he lives by to not only achieve success but to live a happy and fulfilling life.
In this speech, Pratt told his audience to care for their souls, and that God is real. Up to this point, not a lot was known about Pratt’s faith, and though he wasn’t trying to convert anyone with his tongue-in-cheek speech, many considered it more of a sermon to “easily influenced youths” than a heartfelt sharing of knowledge.
Pratt doesn’t make a big deal about his faith, but since his MTV speech, a big deal has been made of it for him. After the “shocking” revelation that he’s a Christian, certain members of the left have latched onto that to attribute bigotry and hatred to a man who, by all accounts, has neither in his heart.
But that doesn’t matter to the anti-Christian, anti-faith, anti-religious social justice crowd. They want Chris Pratt CANCELLED for the crime of believing in God.
They have crafted a meme that out of the four major actors named Chris in Hollywood (Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine, Chris Evans, and Chris Pratt), Pratt is the “worst Chris.” Twitter polls have also ranked Pratt as the “least popular Marvel actor” in a pretty concerted round of online astroturfing.
But the character assassination goes beyond unscientific polls on social media. Trans actor Elliot Page (formerly actress Ellen Page) called out Pratt over his support for the Hillsong Church, a religious organization that allegedly discriminates against the LGBTQ community. Despite Pratt never publicly voicing an anti-LGBTQ opinion, Page’s claim labeled him an anti-LGBTQ bigot. Pratt’s faith has also been used to characterize him as a Trump supporter, a potentially career-ending sin in Hollywood, despite Pratt never expressing any political opinions or endorsements.
Newsweek even got involved in the “Pratt Is A Trumper” dogpile, writing an article about Pratt’s unwillingness to participate in an Avengers fundraiser for Joe Biden, further hinting that Pratt was one of those deplorable Trump supporters.
Spurred by this idea, SJWs have combed through Pratt’s Twitter feeds, supposedly finding past tweets that paint the actor as “racist” and “misogynist.” These tweets were circulated and got so much attention, the affair forced Pratt to publicly come out and deny the questionable tweets ever came from his account (Twitter officials have also confirmed they don’t think the offending tweets are real).
Pratt has also been seen wearing a “Don’t Tread on Me” T-shirt, a motto that originated from the Revolutionary War about maintaining one’s freedom and independence, but has since become a symbol for gun rights and conservative groups – yet another supposed dog whistle the SJWs can attack Pratt over.
So the movement to “Cancel Chris Pratt” has been slowly building over time, though it hasn’t seemed to gain popular traction just yet. But the Cancel Culture Warriors have not let up. Recently, Chris Pratt was cast as the voice of Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Brothers animated film, which sparked an SJW reaction that Pratt wasn’t actually Italian, thus it was “culturally insensitive” to cast him as the famous plumber. (Pratt also voiced the main character of Emmet in The Lego Movie and he’s not an actual Lego man, but no one seemed to mind that.)
Recently, the “anti-Pratt” crowd got REALLY upset when it was announced that the actor would be voicing the iconic Garfield the Cat in an upcoming animated film. Despite Garfield having no actual nationality, the Twitter mobs consider him to be an “Italian Icon” due to the fact that his favorite food is lasagna. (That’s not a joke.) So, instead of celebrating a talented actor voicing two iconic characters in new movies, the SJWs start tweeting stuff like this:
(It should be noted that a live action Mario was previously portrayed by Bob Hoskins, an English actor, and Mario’s brother Luigi was portrayed by John Leguizamo, a Hispanic actor. Bill Murray, who is of Irish descent, was the former voice of Garfield. There has been no backlash against these actors for appropriating Italian icons.)
Despite the internet’s efforts to demonize Pratt, everyone who knows the actor and has worked with him has publicly come out in support of the man, which speaks a great deal to his character. The attempts to slander him have also often been proven to be false and maliciously manufactured. Though efforts have been made to label Pratt a racist, a misogynist, and an anti-LGBTQ bigot, his fanbase and movie-going audiences, by and large, don’t seem to agree with any of these awful characterizations.
Also on rt.com Chris Pratt is in the cancel culture crosshairs for imaginary crimes against woke dogma in the online Infinity WarThough many celebrities have been victims of the current cancel-culture phenomenon, it seems that Chris Pratt’s only sin has been to be religious, and not ashamed to admit it. After all, if a devout Christian can be so beloved by the masses, that could threaten those who stand against that religion’s values. Thus, that symbol of Christian values must be destroyed!
Are we witnessing the Passion of the Pratt, where this beloved actor is forced to suffer for our sins? Only time will tell.
