A drone was intercepted on Moscow's outskirts during the night, as Ukrainian forces attempted to attack the Russian capital, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on Friday.
The hostile UAV was shot down by air defenses over the Podolsk district of Moscow Region. According to preliminary data, there was no damage on the ground, and no one was injured. Emergency services are working in the area where the drone fragments fell.
In a separate incident, an air raid alert was activated in the border region of Belgorod, although local authorities have not confirmed any strikes or interceptions. The city of Belgorod came under rocket fire the night before, with eight people, including an 11-year-old girl, suffering shrapnel wounds.
The governor of Kursk Region, Roman Starovoyt, also announced an air alert during the night, which he withdrew at around 5am local time.
The Russian Defense Ministry has yet to comment on the latest incident outside Moscow. On Thursday, Russian air defense forces repelled several attacks by Ukrainian drones and artillery on Russian cities, while the country was celebrating the 79th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany.
