The BRICS+ Young Diplomats Forum is underway in the Russian city of Ufa, the capital of its Republic of Bashkortostan. Having kicked off on Tuesday, the biennial event is set to wrap up on Saturday.

This year, the platform has returned to Ufa, the city that hosted the very first young-diplomat forum, in 2015. The 2024 forum brings together some 100 delegates from around 30 countries of the global East and South.

This year’s forum, the sixth event in the series, has been dedicated to the “role of young diplomats in strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security.”

Over the years the platform has become an “effective instrument of creating horizontal ties between foreign ministries of the BRICS member states,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told delegates in his address.

The delegates have been hosted by the head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, who underlined the importance of the event for international relations.

“The younger generation of diplomats will have to take more and more responsibility for the implementation of the foreign policy of their countries. Your discussions, expert assessments, and constructive proposals will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening international cooperation, new professional contacts, and the making of important joint decisions,” Khabirov emphasized.
