It was a lucky escape for some refugees, as on August 9 when trying to flee to Russia from the Georgian bombardment they feared for their lives. “One man was shouting ‘please, don’t shoot, there are injured people here,' but as he said it they started to shoot with large calibre guns and burnt his car,” local resident Marina remembered.
