Tokal
Tokal is the name of the second and subsequent wives in the Kazakh tradition of polygamous marriage. You might be surprised, but having tokals is still a common practice among rich Kazakhs. Although polygamous marriage is illegal in Kazakhstan, state officials have not taken any actions to eliminate it. This phenomenon of taking other wives has both its supporters and detractors. The Koran permits this type of marriage and states that all wives are to be treated equally, but many Kazakhs see this practice as immoral and unacceptable.
