Moldova’s Survival Games

Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe. A third of its population lives and works abroad. In 30 years, Moldova has had six leaders and has been caught between Russia and the West. While Chisinau has been granted EU candidate status and has enjoyed financial support from the US, living standards for ordinary people keep plummeting amid record high inflation. ‘Decisions for Moldova aren’t made in Moldova,’ says Vladimir Voronin, a former president of Moldova.
