Lost Souls
Even modest estimates suggest that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) has recruited around 30,000 fighters globally, including women and children. During one of his visits to Syria, war correspondent Semyon Pegov discovered a manual containing instructions on transforming an ordinary person into a militant. He began his investigation to learn more about the ways that terrorists recruit individuals. Semyon met with three Russian women who shared their experiences, explaining how they ended up marrying terrorists, what they endured in the war-ravaged cities of Syria, and how they eventually managed to escape.
