White Light

George Floyd’s murder by police and the resulting protests put Black Lives Matter issues back at the forefront of the news. Southside Chicago has worse gun violence statistics than any active war zone in the last two decades, yet only one in ten murders is solved by police. Officers are regarded by locals as the worst gang, “when you are pulled over by the police you feel your life is over.” White Light goes to the source of why these civilian deaths are happening, and highlights the ways the community is working to bring peace and end the cycle of revenge and retaliation.
