Since its establishment in 1993, the European Union has grown to encompass several dozen members. However, not every state has an easy route to accession, as evidenced by the experiences of countries like Türkiye and Georgia. Amid the ongoing conflict between Kiev and Moscow, certain EU nations are now vocally advocating Ukrainian membership, despite Brussels historically requiring that candidates meet rigorous guidelines in terms of fiscal responsibility, governance and human rights.
