Vladimir Putin has met with Pope Francis in the Vatican. The Russian President is also set to meet his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella. Russia's defense minister says the fire which claimed the lives of 14 sailors on a deep-sea submersible broke out in the vessel's battery compartment. He also gave assurances that the sub's nuclear-energy installation is secure. Iran warns the US not to start a fire if it can't handle the consequences - after Trump warned the Islamic Republic: "not to play with fire" by increasing its uranium enrichment. Germany is in the grip of a heat wave which has also triggered a crime wave including a large punch-up at a swimming pool.
