Anti-climactic end to Mueller Report, poll tax in Florida, & Sanctuary Cities for guns
At the top of the show this week, Lee responds to the anti-climactic delivery of the Mueller Report. While mainstream journalists spent the last two years talking about Trump-Russia collusion in the 2016 election as a fact, Lee and a few other independent voices maintained their journalistic integrity and refused to jump to conclusions based on the word of the intelligence community. Now that the report has been delivered without charging a single person in the Trump campaign with colluding with Putin, one would think that this story could be put to bed. But as Lee demonstrates, the big voices in US journalism still haven’t apologized or let go of the narrative.
In the second half of the show, Natalie McGill takes us to Florida. Months after a majority of Floridian voters restored voting rights to 1.4 million ex-felons, the Florida House of Representatives baked a modern day “poll tax” into a bill they passed, which says those same ex-felons must pay all court fines and fees before getting that right back. To finish off the show, Naomi Karavani covers a movement of pro-second amendment cities that are copying Sanctuary Cities to protect the rights of their citizens to “bear arms.” The original Sanctuary Cities movement was intended to protect undocumented immigrants from ICE.
