The Stan Collymore Show: Colombia’s Juan Pablo Angel, Rene Higuita & Andres Escobar

Juan Pablo Angel won the Colombian championship with Atlético Nacional in 1994, became the Argentinian league’s top scorer with River Plate in 2000, and won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with Aston Villa in 2001. Rene Higuita was no ordinary goalkeeper – the inventor of the scorpion kick, he scored over 40 goals in his career and gave Stan the quickest interview of his life. Andres Escobar was tragically murdered following an own goal at WC 1994 – after so much was expected of Colombia at the tournament. We spoke to his sister about the loss, how Andres got his nickname ‘The Gentleman,’ and his personal life.
