Covid threat isn’t over and VP Kamala Harris walks immigration reform tightrope
The World Health Organization on Friday said that people should continue to wear face masks and take other measures meant to curb the spread of Covid-19, raising concerns about the quickly spreading Delta variant.
Vice President Kamala Harris visited the southern border in El Paso, Texas to see a migrant processing center, following dogged criticism for not having visited the US-Mexico border and a rocky first foreign trip to Guatemala and Mexico earlier this month. Harris toured the El Paso center, a US Customs and Border Protection facility, and spoke with five young girls from Central America while she was there.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday announced that Florida is sending 50 state law enforcement officers to Texas to help reinforce the US-Mexico border, though it remains unclear exactly what their mission will be and who will be paying for the effort.
