Crunch time coming: Champions League quarter-final draw

Crunch time coming: Champions League quarter-final draw

Barcelona will face Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, while French champions Paris Saint Germain will face the last English team left standing, Manchester City.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid previously met at the same stage of the competition in 2013/14, when Atletico ran out 2-1 winners over the two legs on their way to the final.

Barcelona progressed to the last eight after a comfortable 5-1 aggregate success over Arsenal, while Atletico triumphed 8-7 on penalties after two scoreless games against PSV Eindhoven.

Manchester City will face French champions Paris St Germain in their first ever quarter-final in Europe's premier club competition. The Premier League's only remaining representatives in the Champions League have met PSG only once previously, in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup, when they drew 0-0.

City's dour 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday in their last 16 game completed a 3-1 aggregate victory, while goals by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani helped PSG to a 2-1 win against Chelsea to see them through 4-2 overall.

Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich, who reached the quarter-final after a 6-4 aggregate win against Juventus, face Benfica. The Portuguese champions reached the last eight courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate success over Zenit St Petersburg, but the German team will be big favorites to progress to the last four.

Spanish giants Real Madrid will also be expected to make it through to the semi-finals after they were paired with Wolfsburg.

Madrid eased past Roma 4-0 in their last 16 tie, while the Bundesliga team defeated Belgian side Gent 4-2 overall.
