Russia has finished the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with 56 medals in total: 19 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze, to put it in the fourth place in an unofficial medal table rating.
Russian wrestler Soslan Ramonov won last Rio gold medal for his home country in the men’s freestyle at 65kg.
In the final, the two-time Russian champion beat Toghrul Asgarov from Azerbaijan by a score of 4:0.
Ramonov, 25, who is a world champion of 2014 and bronze world medalist of 2015, grabbed his first career Olympic medal.
Boxer Mikhail Aloyan has earned silver for Russia in the men’s 52kg flyweight final.
Aloyan boxed Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan in the gold medal match, with each looking to become their country’s first champion in the category.
Both boxers were cut during the match, Zoirov from a clash of heads in the first round and then Aloyan in the second round.
As a result of the cut, Aloyan resorted to swinging wildly but the Uzbek fighter kept his composure and boxed intelligently on the back foot.
Going into the third round it was all square at one round apiece but it was the Uzbek who saw the fight out with clever boxing on the outside to win gold by a razor thin decision.
In winning silver, Aloyan grabbed the fifth boxing medal for Team Russia in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and his personal second Olympic medal. He previously earned bronze in London 2012.
