Stan Collymore, a former football star and now popular sports blogger, has joined RT as a special host for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. Liverpool’s former center-forward will travel to the host cities and meet with players and fans.
The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup will be held in Russia this summer from June 17 to July 2, taking place in the four host cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Sochi.
“I’m delighted to be reporting for RT from the Confederations Cup in Russia this summer. It’s a chance for me to see the country, the infrastructure, the fans,” Collymore wrote to RT on his blog.
Collymore, who also played for Aston Villa and Leicester City during his Premier League tenure, will visit all four cities to meet with football fans and players.
During his visit to St. Petersburg on Sunday to watch a match between a Ronaldinho-led FIFA legends team and a team of Russian football stars, in which the latter won, Collymore shared his feelings about Russia with RT: “The stadia look great, the cities look great, the people are like you and me.”
“So I’m here, hosting RT coverage around the Confed Cup, visiting stadia, meeting people and going off piste to report my findings, so that like in Ukraine 2012, and the two World Cups I’ve reported on, fans can take what I say and bank on it. Reliable, honest information,” he added.
