Russian two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova has progressed to the Wimbledon quarterfinals after beating ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in straight sets.
Seventh seed Kuznetsova broke her opponent three times in the match to register a comfortable 6-2, 6-4 win in a match that mirrored the pair’s first-ever encounter.
This will be Kuznetsova's fourth attempt to make it to the Wimbledon semifinals, having lost to Justine Henin in 2003, Lindsay Davenport in 2005 and Venus Williams in 2007.
In the next round Kuznetsova will take on Garbine Muguruza of Spain, who defeated world number one Angelique Kerber of Germany in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Kerber will now drop down the WTA rankings after she failed to reach the final of the tournament. Simona Halep of Romania can ascend to world number one if she beats Britain's Johanna Konta in their quarterfinal match.
