Russian synchronized swimming duo Mikhaela Kalancha and Aleksandr Maltsev claimed victory in the mixed duet final at the World Championships in Budapest over the weekend, adding to the team’s gold medal haul in the synchro events.
Kalancha and Maltsev claimed 92,6000 points, beating Italian pair Mariangela Perrupato and Giorgio Minisini into second on 91,1000 points and American duo Kanako Kitao and Bill May into third on 88,7667 points, TASS reports.
The victory for the Russian pair on Saturday meant they put behind the disappointment of finishing second behind Italy in the mixed duet technical event on Monday last week.
The win also meant that Russia have claimed an astonishing seven gold medals out of the nine synchronized swimming events at the 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Russia currently sit second in the medals table, behind China, with eight golds and 14 medals in total (including three silvers and three bronzes).
The championships continue until July 30, and the attention now turns to the swimming events.
