An England fan has been detained by police after a monument was defaced outside Spartak Stadium, the venue for England’s World Cup last 16 game against Colombia, according to reports in Russian media.
Russian media outlet Championat.com reports that an English fan, who was later identified as Rufus Hall, was held by police after a monument to late former Spartak Moscow player Fyodor Cherenkov was defaced.
Pictures showed the word ‘England’ scrawled across the front of the statue of the player, which stands outside the stadium.

England were taking on Colombia in their World Cup last 16 game at the 45,000-seater stadium. The match ended in a dramatic penalty shootout win for England, who now progress to the quarter-finals.
