Despite suffering the heartbreak of a penalty shootout World Cup quarter-final exit, some Russian fans took the time to clean the stands of Fisht Stadium in Sochi after the match.
Russia went down to a 4-3 defeat on penalties after the score finished 2-2 at the end of extra time. It had been a pulsating game in which Russia had taken the lead, gone behind, and then leveled the scores deep into extra time – all before the penalty shootout drama unfolded.
Croatia's Ivan Rakitic stepped up to score the decisive spotkick, sending his team into a semi-final meeting with England and sending the hosts Russia out.
Despite the disappointment, pictures showed some Russian fans clearing the stands of Sochi's Fisht Stadium, continuing a trend that Japanese and Senegalese fans had started earlier in the tournament.
