Maradona will ‘train together with the guys’ at new team in Belarus

Argentinian football icon Diego Maradona, who was recently appointed as chairman of Belarusian club Dinamo Brest, has said he will train together with the players upon his return from vacation.

The 57-year-old World Cup winner told Match TV that he is heading off on a 15-day vacation in Argentina to take a much-needed rest after an exhausting season.

I will fly [to Argentina] to spend well-deserved holidays, as I have worked intensely for a year and a half,” Maradona was quoted as saying.

I couldn’t even spend Christmas with my family and attend my daughter’s wedding. So I want to go on a 15-day vacation to gain strength and energy [before the season]. I want to immediately start training with the guys upon my arrival back. I think they really need it. When I was watching a game I felt a desire to attend a training session. I see that the players want to win matches and I really like this attitude,” he added.

The Argentinian legend made the headlines for his stadium antics at the World Cup in Russia, and signed a three-year contract with the Belarusian club where he will hold the post of chairman.

Last week, Maradona was again in the spotlight as he arrived in a huge military vehicle to watch Dinamo’s match against Shakhter Soligorsk.
