Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sent a heartfelt message to wellwishers following his recovery from a brain hemorrghage he suffered in May, in his first statement since undergoing life-saving surgery.
Ferguson, 76, was struck down by the cerebral bleed on May 5 and underwent emergency surgery on the hemorrhage after which he was placed in an induced coma, before being released from hospital on June 1.

Manchester United, the club at which Ferguson spent 26 years at the helm, released a short video to their official account on Thursday, where the Scot personally addressed hospital staff and wellwishers.
"On Saturday 5 May, the football world was rocked by the news that Sir Alex Ferguson had undergone surgery for a brain haemorrhage," the 20-times champions of England wrote. “Since then, the most successful manager in English football history has battled in a way only he knows how. Today, we bring you a special message."
In the video, Ferguson wore a light-blue shirt to speak directly into the camera. He said: "Just a quick message first of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexander hospitals. Believe me, without those people, with such great care, I would not be sitting here today.
"So, thank you from me and my family. It’s made me feel very humble, as all the messages I’ve had from all over the world wishing me the best and the good wishes do resonate with me. So thank you for that support you've given me."

Ferguson then turned his attention to the current Manchester United team and manager. "And lastly, I’ll be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players. Thank you very much."
Ferguson retired from management in 2013 after leading United to 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cup wins and two UEFA Champions League titles, to make himself the most decorated manager in English football history.
The news was met with joy from members of the sporting world and media respectively, including former players such as Wayne Rooney and members of the footballing community.
