US cyclist Lance Armstrong hospitalized after bike crash

Disgraced US cyclist Lance Armstrong, who was embroiled in one of the biggest doping scandals in sporting history, has been hospitalized after wrecking his bike during the Tom Blake cycling trail in Colorado.

The 46-year-old athlete badly injured his face and was forced to go undergo a medical check in a local hospital to find out whether his head was injured in the crash.

“Well, sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail,” the former Tour de France winner wrote, posting a picture of his bashed face.

“Took quite the blow to the noggin’ so swung by the Aspen Valley Hospital (great facility!) to get my head checked,” the cyclist added.

Former champion Armstrong had long been praised for his incredible wins, as well as for his efforts to fight cancer after he returned to sport having battled the deadly disease.

However, his victorious career was ruined in 2012, a year after his retirement, when the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) claimed that the prominent racer had taken illegal performance-enhancing drugs over the course of his career.

Armstrong, who was stripped of his titles, confessed to doping in 2013, prompting his long-time sponsors to immediately terminate their involvement with him.
