'We were deeply disturbed': Kansas City Chiefs exclude NFL star Tyreek Hill over son's injury claims
The Kansas City Chiefs have excluded wide receiver Tyreek Hill from "any team activities" after audio was released of Hill and his fiancee Crystal Espinal, allegedly discussing an incident involving his three-year-old son.
Prosecutors recently decided not to bring charges against Hill following an alleged domestic incident that left Hill's son injured due to an inability to confirm who had caused the injury - reported by the Kansas City Star as a broken arm.
But the release of the audio has prompted the Chiefs to exclude Hill from all team affairs until matters are fully resolved.
The tape has a man, allegedly Hill, talking to his fiancee and discussing the incident.
Espinal told Hill that her son repeatedly told her: "Daddy did it."
"A three-year-old is not going to lie about what happened to his arm. He is terrified of you," she told him.
The man identified as Hill then replied: "You need to be terrified, too."
Following the release of the audio, Chiefs GM Brett Veach released a statement to reporters at the NFL Draft to address the issue.
"Well, we didn’t have a first-round pick, and I did not anticipate having a press conference. However, in light of the events that transpired tonight, I did think it was appropriate to address the media on behalf of the organization," he began.
"Earlier this evening, we were made aware of the audio between Tyreek (Hill) and Crystal (Espinal). We were made [aware] of this information in real time, just like the general public. We were deeply disturbed by what we heard. We were deeply concerned.
"Now, obviously we have great concern for Crystal, we are greatly concerned for Tyreek, but our main focus and our main concern is with the young child.
"As soon as the draft concluded after the last pick, I had the chance to call [Hill's agent] Drew Rosenhaus and we decided that at this time and for the foreseeable future, Tyreek Hill will not partake in any team activities.
"We are going to gather more information. We’re going to evaluate this information and we will make the right decision regarding Tyreek Hill."
