'Get well soon Mo!' Fans react as Salah stretchered from the pitch after suffering head injury

Fans have sent their best wishes to Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who was forced from the field of play after suffering a head injury as a result of a collision with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka during a 3-2 away win.

The Egyptian was subsequently stretchered off with the match at 2-2 and is doubtful to make Liverpool's Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona on Tuesday or the Reds' crunch last game of the season against Wolves.

Salah had restored the Merseyside club's lead on 28 minutes after Christian Atsu equalized for the home side eight minutes earlier. Virgil van Dijk opened the scoring on 13 minutes.

In a twist of irony, the Premier League top scorer was replaced by the man who took them a step closer to their first league title in 30 years: Divock Origi sealed the three points with a late winner four minutes from time to put the Anfield club back on top of the league, ahead of Manchester City by two points.

Fans had already grown tense over Salah's zealous treatment from Newcastle's Matt Ritchie, who was tasked with dealing with the in-form forward, and fulfilled his duty with some very tight man-marking.

Apoplectic fans laid into referee Andre Marriner who was perceived to have allowed the winger to do as he pleased on the pitch without fear of punishment.

Liverpool's reign at the top of the pile could last only until Monday, as Manchester City play their game-in-hand against Leicester on Monday. The two clubs could go into their final games of the season knowing the title will be decided on that day.
