'There's been songs written for less': Euphoria as Liverpool fight back to claim UCL final spot
Liverpool supporters are rejoicing on Tuesday night as their team scored four unanswered goals to dump Barcelona out of the Champions League on a famous night inside one of England's most historic footballing arenas.
A brace apiece from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum, three of them coming in the second half, saw the rampant Reds thoroughly shellack Lionel Messi and Barcelona to overcome a 3-0 deficit from the first leg in one of the most memorable Champions League ties ever seen at Anfield.
Even with Messi's mercurial talents leading their line, Barcelona couldn't threaten Alisson's goal with any sustained muster as Liverpool outperformed their opposite numbers to a man throughout the 90 minutes, as the Anfield crowd roared their approval with eardrum-shattering intensity.
Also on rt.com Liverpool stage comeback for the ages to beat Barcelona and reach Champions League finalSome of the most vitriolic chanting was directed at Anfield old boy Luis Suarez, who came off second best in practically every duel with PFA Player of the Year Virgil Van Dijk. The Uruguayan appeared to be an increasingly forlorn figure as the game progressed.
In the end it was a piece of inspiration from young England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, as he directed a quick corner into Origi's path to slam home his second - and Liverpool's fourth - sending Liverpool fans into a particular brand of ecstasy which hasn't been experienced since the 'Miracle in Istanbul' 14 years ago.
Twitter, of course, wasn't around back then but here is what has made it to the web in the aftermath of their latest European comeback.
This is Anfield! 🔥 So happy for club & fans! #YNWA#LIVBAR@LFC#liverpool

Given the quality of opposition, the injuries and the deficit....that is surely Anfield's best European night ever

Should be noted Alexander Arnold patiently played for that corner. And he won the ball back to set up second goal. Some performance! There's been songs written for less.

Alexander-Arnold, 20 years old. People will tell me it’s bad defending, I’m telling you it’s pure intelligence and vision.

That’s unbelievable. Truly unbelievable. Trent Alexander-Arnold, a 20 year old, with one of the most heads up assists in football history.Fair play. That’s extraordinary.

The rest of Liverpool's players in the dressing-room or doing interviews, so Trent Alexander-Arnold enjoys a lap of honour on his own. Quite true. Twenty years old, local lad, absolutely brilliant performance, heading for his second Champions League final, living the dream.

Fair play to Suarez. He said he wouldn't celebrate at Anfield and he was right.
