Goalkeeping great Iker Casillas to ‘retire from football’ following heart attack

Spanish World Cup-winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas might soon call the time on his professional football career following the heart attack he suffered at the beginning of May, reports in Portuguese media suggest.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper will soon announce his retirement as a professional player, but will remain in the FC Porto off-field structure, as Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports, citing club's president Pinto da Costa.

The former Real Madrid man was rushed to hospital after suffering a medical emergency on May 1 at the FC Porto facility. Soon after, medical personnel at the Hospital CUF Porto announced that his condition had become stable and, after tests and analysis, Casillas was considered well enough to return home.
