Second German coach quits Russian Premier League team

Daniel Farke will leave his position as head coach of Krasnodar
Second German coach quits Russian Premier League team

German coach Daniel Farke and his training team have left Russian Premier League team Krasnodar, the club has announced.

Farke, 45, only took up the role in mid-January after being sacked by English Premier League club Norwich.

“Krasnodar and Daniel Farke terminated the contract by mutual agreement,” the club announced.

“Together with the German coach, his assistants Edmund Riemer, Chris Domogalla and Christopher John leave the club.”

Krasnodar said goalkeeping coach Aleksey Antonyuk would take over as interim manager.

Farke had yet to oversee an official match in charge of the club after Krasnodar’s planned Russian Premier League match at home to Lokomotiv Moscow last weekend was postponed due to local air travel restrictions in the southern Russian city.

The game was due to be Krasnodar’s first since the resumption of the league following the winter break.

Farke becomes the second German head coach to leave a Russian Premier League team in as many days.

Lokomotiv Moscow confirmed on Tuesday that manager Markus Gisdol was leaving his position, with the 52-year-old later explaining he took the decision in protest at Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.
