Armed police evacuated Tooting Broadway Underground station on Wednesday afternoon after a security alert. Officers are hunting for a man who is alleged to have threatened passengers with a pair of scissors.
Twitter users said the station was closed and reported a “massive police presence.”
The Metropolitan Police said the police presence around Tooting Broadway station was due to reports of a man threatening people on a train, according to NBC News journalist Alexander Smith.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman told the Wandsworth Guardian: “This is an incident regarding a man who is believed to be making threats and carrying scissors.”
After searching the station, police could not find anyone matching the alleged perpetrators description and the incident was “stood down.”
Wandsworth police tweeted a statement saying officers would remain in the area.
