Basking in Brexit glory, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage has claimed that 70 percent of Britons would vote to leave the EU if the referendum held in June of last year was repeated tomorrow.
Brexit mastermind Farage celebrated the invocation of Article 50 on Wednesday at a Westminster pub, with a pint of presumably British lager.
Speaking to RT, Farage said he is “very happy” Britain has passed the “point of no return,” noting “we’re going to become an independent, normal country again. That can’t be bad.”
“Voters around the country are now coming together. I suspect if there was a referendum tomorrow, it would be nearer to 70 percent who’d vote to leave. So there is a coming together, although not much in Westminster,” he added.
Donned in Union Jack socks, Farage said “today’s the day the impossible dream came true.”
Nevertheless, he also said he will leave the country if Brexit turns out to be a “disaster.”
Farage told listeners of his LBC radio show on Sunday that, while he believes Brexit will be a success, he will emigrate if it isn’t.
“If Brexit is a disaster, I will go and live abroad. I will go and live somewhere else… it isn’t going to be a disaster. We’ve just managed to get ourselves in a lifeboat off the Titanic.”
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Theresa May invoked Article 50, triggering Britain’s official departure from the EU. Negotiations must be completed within two years.
