‘Tory power stance or Ronaldo free-kick?’ Farage & new recruit Widdecombe ridiculed for odd snap

‘Tory power stance or Ronaldo free-kick?’ Farage & new recruit Widdecombe ridiculed for odd snap

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage and his freshest recruit, former Tory and TV celebrity ballroom dance contestant Ann Widdecombe, have been photographed together striking comical poses, prompting much ridicule on social media.

The coming together of Farage and Widdecombe to announce her candidacy for the upcoming EU Parliament elections on May 23 was caught on camera on a London street – in one particularly peculiar picture.

Farage appears to be trying to score points with the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ celebrity, imitating a dance hold, while Widdecombe is seen planting her feet incredibly wide as if about to squat down on the floor.

It has prompted much reaction on social media. Many have remarked that Widdecombe is obviously demonstrating her “freestyle” take on the legendary ‘Tory power stance’. However, one Twitter user thought maybe the former Conservative was inspired by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, putting her own personal take on his iconic free-kick stance.

The somewhat unfortunate pose illustrated by Widdecombe drew many ‘bathroom’ references, with @Pur16Martin taking on the role of Farage to ask: “Anne could you not hold that in until we got inside?”

Widdecombe, the ex-shadow home secretary, became the latest high-profile figure to defect to Farage’s anti-EU party on Wednesday, which ultimately led to the Tories expelling her not long after.
