Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has had a milkshake thrown at him during a walkabout in Newcastle city center, leaving the Euroskeptic MEP angry with his security officials for not preventing the attack.
Farage is the latest victim of a tactic being recently employed by protesters of pro-Brexit parties. A video clip of the aftermath of the incident shows the disgruntled Brexit Party leader being hurriedly led away. Farage can be heard saying, “How did you not stop that?"
Paul Crowther, from Throckley, Newcastle, who is reportedly the perpetrator of the attack on Farage has said it was a £5.25 Five Guys banana and salted caramel milkshake.
I didn't know he was in town, I thought this is my only chance.
Crowther, ostensibly unrepentant, claimed that the “bile and racism he [Farage] spouts is far more damaging” than a bit of milkshake down his suit.
Responding to the attack, Farage took to Twitter to tell his followers that “some remainers have become radicalised.” He claimed that this type of incident was the consequence of “politicians not accepting the referendum result.”
It comes after Scottish police reportedly asked an Edinburgh McDonald’s branch not to sell milkshakes or ice-cream during Farage’s recent visit, following a spate of attacks from protesters using the dairy-based products as projectiles.
The milkshake protest started with Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who was targeted with a McDonald’s milkshake in Warrington in footage that quickly went viral. Robinson’s second dairy attack came soon after, during a visit to Greater Manchester while on the campaign trail.
