Tim Kaine’s DNC speech spawns internet dad jokes

Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) is a staid, solid guy. It was part of the reason Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton tapped him to join her ticket. His speech at the party’s convention proved it… and begat a slew of “dad jokes” on Twitter.

Unlike most internet memes, there was no hashtag ‒ let’s be honest, Kaine isn’t the hippest guy around. Instead, people tweeted how he reminded them of a dad (or uncle) trying to be cool… and sometimes even succeeding.

BuzzFeed dubbed him“Twitter’s favorite living, breathing dad joke.” Even ‘The Gray Lady’ got in on the action, albeit in a more muted manner. “Tim Kaine’s dad style makes a statement in Philadelphia,” the New York Times headline read.

The VP nominee made waves on Twitter in other ways, too, particularly with women who noticed just how hot he used to be.

Of course, some of that hotness may have come from just how adorable a he was as a new dad.
