Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dies at 41

Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington dies at 41

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park, has died at 41, the Los Angeles County coroner said, AP reports. He was found hanged, according to TMZ citing law enforcement sources.

Bennington was found dead at his home in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County just before 9am Thursday, according to TMZ.

Originally from Arizona, he was married twice and has six children. Bennington struggled with drug and alcohol addictions during his life, reported Billboard.

Bandmate Mike Shinoda confirmed the news on Twitter, saying a statement would follow soon.

The singer formed Linkin Park with high school friends in 1996, achieving success in 2000 with their album Hybrid Theory.

Their success continued with hit albums Meteora, Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns, seeing the band duet with rapper Jay-Z.

He married his first wife, Samantha Marie Olit, in 1996. They had one child before divorcing in 2005. Following the divorce, he married Tyler Lee Bennington, with whom he had three children.

His death comes on the same day of the birthday of his deceased friend, singer Chris Cornell, who was found dead in May. Bennington sang at his friend’s funeral.
