Special Counsel Robert Mueller will testify before US Congress on the probe he conducted into claims that Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government to swing elections, Jerry Nadler announced.

Nadler, the Democratic chairman of the US House Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday an agreement has been reached for Mueller to appear before US lawmakers sometime in May. An exact date for the session has not yet been set, he added.

Many Democrats have been calling for a grilling of Mueller ever since his report into Russiagate failed to meet their expectations and incriminate the president or members of his inner circle of having criminal ties with Russia.

The report also refrained from stating that Trump or other senior officials in his camp engaged in obstruction of justice – with many critics of the US leader arguing that Mueller found plenty of evidence of this actually happening.

Attorney General William Barr, who stands accused by the same people of willfully ignoring that evidence to cover up for Trump, has his own grilling before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
