AOC’s ‘bin raccoon’ boyfriend sparks viral meme

AOC’s ‘bin raccoon’ boyfriend sparks viral meme

A prominent writer’s suggestion that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is “shackled” to her “bin raccoon” partner has sparked the internet’s latest hissy fit and amidst the hysteria a pretty hilarious meme has emerged.

Viewers got a look into Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s private life in Knock Down The House, a new documentary about the 2018 midterm elections which debuted on Netflix last week.

AOC’s longtime partner Riley Roberts makes several appearances in the film and UK politics writer Marie Le Conte was prompted to paint an unflattering portrait of the politicians choice of boyfriend.

“Apologies for the blatantly mean tweet, but THIS is what AOC’s boyfriend looks like?” she wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted. “Incredible scenes, truly representing all the ambitious and stunning millenial [sic] women shackled to boyfriends who look like bin racoons [sic] out there.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly this did not go down well with many of AOC’s supporters who were quick to let their feelings be known.

Le Conte first doubled down on the insult, tweeting: “I see the Men With Long Pubes Sellotaped To Their Chin caucus is not happy with this tweet”, before later, seemingly worn down by the criticism, deleting the tweet and issuing an all-time-great non-apology apology.

But still the backlash was unrelenting.

Somewhere in this suffocating righteousness people started to post Le Conte’s words alongside photos of a variety of people and characters, including Game of Thrones’ Tormund and Slavoj Zizek, and the new meme made the whole exhausting episode worthwhile. Kind of.
