7 killed after WWII-era plane crashes at Connecticut airport, sparking huge fire (PHOTOS, VIDEO)
Seven people were killed in a crash involving a WWII-era aircraft at Bradley Airport, Connecticut. The plane caught fire while attempting to land.
Thirteen people were on board at the time of the crash, and one of the casualties was a civilian on the ground, officials told the media. The number of casualties was initially withheld by officials, but police put out the figure later on Wednesday evening.
The FAA said the plane was a civilian-registered B17.
The airport tweeted confirmation of the crash, and said it has been closed as “we have an active fire and rescue operation underway.” Air traffic is being diverted to Rhode Island.
Photos and footage posted on social media show flames raging near the ground and black smoke rising above the airport.

The airport said the aircraft is linked to the Collings Foundation military history group, and it expects to reopen to air traffic on Wednesday around 1.30pm local time.
