“How long will it take to turn Afghanistan?”

It is going to be cold in Afghanistan pretty soon and the fighting will die down, so there won’t be a significant surge of troops before the spring offensive, argues Lawrence Korb from the Center for American Progress.

The approval ratings for the Afghan war in the U.S. are at an all-time low and the death toll of American soldiers is at an all-time high, but despite this President Barack Obama’s top military advisor has called for a troop surge in Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, General Mike Mullen recommended increasing U.S. troop numbers in Afghanistan.

That means that President Obama will have to explain why this war is a necessity to the American people, layout what the objectives are, and give a reasonable estimation of how long it will take, says Korb.

Since taking office, Obama has already nearly doubled the size of the military force in the country.
