While the Russian president is on a visit to Syria, the president of the Institute for Middle Eastern Studies, Evgeny Satanovsky, shared with RT his views on Russia’s contribution to the Middle East peace process.
“The Middle East peace process is something which has been in the cemetery for more than 10 years. We cannot raise it from the dead,” Satanovsky said. “We, the U.N., the U.S., and the E.U. are all part of the club that discusses something about the Middle East peace process – shakes hands and travels the world. That’s nice. But we must understand that nobody – neither Russia, nor the US, nor Egypt, nor Saudi Arabia – can build the state if a Palestinian leadership does not build a state. We can help. The problem is the whole world has been helping this process for decades and the result is absolutely nothing. Maybe it’s time to leave Israelis and Palestinians alone and they will build some kind of peace which is possible for both sides.”
