US President Barack Obama on Tuesday decided to send additional 30 thousand US troops to Afghanistan, officials say.
It took the US President almost a year to review the US strategy in Afghanistan.
Obama has been dogged by a rising death toll among US and coalition troops, an Afghan presidential election overshadowed by fraud allegations, and intensifying Taliban activity.
Officials say that Obama will after all committ 30 thousand more troops that should be deployed over a period of six months.
But skepticism about Obama’s new exit strategy is in the air.
“He is talking about some sort of off ramps that could be potential ways for the US to begin to leave,” investigative journalist and policy analyst Gareth Porter told RT. “I think that’s a big question mark and I don’t know if they really have a clear idea of how they are going to do it. I’m afraid that there is a logic here of sending more troops and then having difficulty getting them out.”
