Nothing unusual, just a T-80 tank overturned near Moscow in road mishap (VIDEOS, PHOTOS)
A Russian military division has lost a T-80 battle tank on a road in the Moscow region. The large vehicle was found helplessly lying with its caterpillar track embarrassingly up in the air – to the amusement of social media.
The accident happened on Thursday in the town of Naro-Fominsk, west of the Russian capital. The tank was being transported on a lowboy trailer when things turned upside down.
Social media users who posted images of the incident claimed that the trailer had failed to negotiate a corner. Lenta.ru news website cited local military officials as saying that the lowboy’s wheel had burst.
Officials say no one was injured, as there was no one inside the tank when it overturned, adding that it had contained no ammunition either. The road under the heavy vehicle appears to have suffered, however.
While special equipment was called to the scene to right the tank, people have been making fun of the incident. Some – probably those living close to the tank division – played it cool with comments like “nothing unusual.”
Others suggested it had been a well-planned “military maneuver” aimed at “surprising the enemy.”
