Video has emerged of a train derailing during a spectacular display of lightning in Chicago. The train canopy can be seen engulfed in sparks as several carriages come off the tracks during an intense storm.
As the camera pans to the collapsed section of the canopy, a woman’s voice can be heard yelling, “It’s off the tracks!” The section runs alongside a pedestrian ramp on Chicago’s West Side.
The incident occurred on Sunday with no injuries reported and the city’s transit authority was able to resume normal services with the use of only one track.
Lightning was not to blame for the derailment. Instead it was caused by debris on the track from the storm.
The city’s iconic skyline was captured on camera during the lightning storm, with residents producing some breathtaking images.
The storms came following a heatwave in the city, with temperatures in the triple digits Fahrenheit.
