Chelsea Clinton has hit back at US President Donald Trump’s claim that people would be touting her as presidential if she replaced one of her parents at a meeting of world leaders.

On Monday, Trump took to Twitter to argue that the practice was “very standard,” adding that German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed.

He then redirected the criticism at former first daughter Chelsea Clinton.

Clinton was quick to respond, saying it would have “never occurred” to her parents to ask her to fill in at such an event. She then posed the question “were you giving our country away?”

At the time of writing the president had yet to respond to Clinton’s tweet.
