In a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster, a woman’s car dramatically fell seven stories out of a Texas parking lot and smashed into the pavement, with the driver trapped inside.
The plunging car narrowly missed another vehicle which was driving below when it dropped.
Austin Police released shocking CCTV footage of the July 13 incident on Thursday. The video shows a large Chevrolet SUV patiently doing a three-point-turn in the Littlefield parking lot in Austin when, all of a sudden, a car crashes down from above.
The car burst through retention wires and fell seven stories before smashing into the pavement and grazing the back of the SUV.
William Burch, who was driving the Chevrolet SUV, told local TV station KVUE that he was on the phone when the incident happened.
“I was talking to my mom on speaker on my phone, and I heard all these loud noises and bangs,” he said. “So I just immediately just put it in drive and started driving forward and as I started driving forward, the car landed on me.”
The woman in the car which plummeted over the edge suffered minor injuries in the spectacular smash, and has since recovered.
Bizarrely, this is the second time in less than a year that a car has fallen off the edge of the same parking garage.
In September a 23-year-old man accidentally drove off the garage’s top level however his car miraculously dangled for several minutes and he managed to escape, Dallas News reports.
